During the summer break, as people flocked to Kenting for travel, the Ping E 屏鵝 Highway experienced heavy traffic. Seemingly impatient drivers violated the rules by driving in the slow lane, intended for motorbikes only.
The Fangliao Police have reported over 300 cases and set up video equipment to clamp down on these violations along the route.
The Ping E Highway is a crucial route for drivers traveling between Taitung and Kenting. Due to the high volume of travelers during the summer break, police have deployed personnel to manage traffic flow. However, there have been cases of drivers becoming impatient and attempting to speed up by illegally using the slow lane.
Provincial Highway 26, a Taiwanese road, originates from Fangshan in Pingtung County and concludes its route in Daren, Taitung County. This thoroughfare is recognized by two names: Ping-E Highway (屏鵝公路) for the section spanning from Fangshan to Cape Eluanbi within Kenting National Park, and Jia-E Highway (佳鵝公路) between Cape Eluanbi and Jialeshui (佳樂水). Serving as the primary conduit to Kenting National Park and the beaches in Kenting, this highway spans 93.5 kilometers (58.1 miles).
Fangliao Branch, Pingtung County Police Bureau, Patrol Officer Jin Yuheng 金昱亨, of Group 4, attended a media interview today. He mentioned that some vehicles have violated regulations by using the slow lane improperly.
This contravenes Article 45, Paragraph 1, Subparagraph 4 of the Road Traffic Management Punishment Act, resulting in fines ranging from 600 to 1800 New Taiwan Dollars. Statistics show that over 300 cases of vehicles violating the slow lane regulations have been reported during the summer vacation period.

The Fangliao police emphasize that video equipment has been set up along the route to monitor and apprehend violators at irregular intervals and locations. They urge drivers passing through these areas with heavy traffic not to illegally use the slow lane, as it poses a danger.
This scenario repeats itself constantly on weekends along Pinghe Road, leading to discussions among netizens. Some netizens commented that they’re both four-wheel and two-wheel vehicles; they turn into cars on the highway and switch to motorcycles when stuck in traffic. Others think this section in Pingtung should issue special license plates exclusively for the county use that it’s like riding a bike while driving a car.
