Tougou Village 頭溝里

During the reign of Emperor Guangxu, Tougou Village belonged to Dehe Village. During the Japanese colonial period, it belonged to “Da Pingding Township.”

It is bordered by Checheng Township to the northwest and Jiahu Village to the north. To the east, it is adjacent to Longluantan Drainage Ditch and Wangsha Village.

To the south, it is adjacent to Sigou Village. The total area of this village is 7.3316 square kilometers, with a population of 540 people. Although the current population is sparse, it was one of the earliest places where Han Chinese settled and developed after landing in the bay during the Qing Dynasty.

Due to abundant irrigation water sources, the Han Chinese expanded further south from this area to develop San Gou, Si Gou, and Longquan.

The surname “Zhang, 張” a prominent surname in Hengchun, originated from the migration of people from Tougou Village to the south.

During the reign of Emperor Guangxu, the area west of the “Longluantan Drainage Ditch” was inhabited by Han Chinese.

In contrast, the eastern part, the present-day county seat, Shanjiao Village, and the Longluan Mountain area, was inhabited by the Pingpu tribe.

It was only after the establishment of Hengchun County that the influence of the Han Chinese moved eastward.
