In Pingtung County’s Checheng Township, the Sichongxi Hot Springs Park is undergoing its annual hot spring tourism season night-time lighting project. Yesterday at noon, a 60-year-old worker accidentally touched a 380V high-voltage line during construction and fainted on the spot.

A man was seen lying motionless next to the transformer box, showing no signs of life. On-site workers performed CPR until the paramedics arrived. It turned out that the sixty-year-old man was suspected of having been electrocuted and had collapsed.
Fire and rescue personnel used an AED (Automated External Defibrillator) to deliver an electric shock, after which the worker was rushed to the Hengchun Tourism Hospital. The automatic cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) machine continued treatment en route, and the worker’s heartbeat was restored during the journey, saving his life. The fire department emphasized the importance of continuous CPR by colleagues after the electric shock.
The Checheng Fire Brigade of the Pingtung County Government Fire Department received a report yesterday at noon that a 60-year-old man had been electrocuted and collapsed in front of a transformer box in the Sihjhongsi Hot Springs Park of Checheng. The fire brigade reported that upon arrival, colleagues were continuously performing CPR on him; he had no breathing or pulse and lost consciousness after touching a 380V high-voltage line.
Rescuers and emergency medical technicians took over and assessed the patient, who was in OHCA (out-of-hospital cardiac arrest) with a pale complexion. They applied AED pads for assessment and advanced airway placement. After the AED recommended one shock, they continued emergency treatment with an automatic CPR machine while transporting the patient to the Hengchun Tourism Hospital. During the transport, CPR was continuously performed and the AED did not recommend further shocks. Before arriving at the hospital, the patient regained spontaneous breathing and pulse, and his life was saved. The patient has been transferred to the ICU for observation and treatment.
The Checheng Fire Brigade mentioned that the patient’s recovery of breathing and heartbeat before reaching the hospital was due to immediate CPR provided by people at the scene and the subsequent correct treatment by emergency technicians and the hospital. In cases of electrocution leading to OHCA, it is important to remove dangerous factors and then administer CPR and AED shocks in a safe environment to prevent secondary injuries.
The past hot spring season activities at Pingtung’s Sihchongxi were three months long, known for their grand and stunning installations of light and shadow art, creating a dreamlike atmosphere with extensive lighting decorations. This year’s hot spring festival is set to begin on November 17th, and construction is being expedited on-site.
