CNN travel has released its list of 18 of Asia’s most underrated places, which includes the tourist hotspot of Kenting in the southernmost point of Taiwan.
Interestingly enough, Formosa TV English news also released an exciting video on their YouTube channel, where they interviewed several tourists on the topic of Kenting. Let’s delve into the details of what the CNN Travel editor wrote about Kenting and what is featured in the Formosa TV video.
Let me start with an exact quote of what CNNs Wayne Chang actually wrote in about the Kenting. He wrote:

CNN Travel named Kenting one of the 18 most underrated places in Asia. The area is known for its beautiful beaches, bustling night market, and breathtaking sunsets (and, if you are in Manzhou – sunrises are even more beautiful).
But what do tourists in Taiwan think about Kenting? This is what FTV reporters set out to get some interviews with real people.

Man on the left says that: It was fine. It was a nice beach resort area. The time we went, it was not the right time of year, though. (There was nobody there. But it was nice. We had it to ourselves. We rented scooters, and drove around the island area.
Editors note: Wondering the best time of the year to go to Kenting? We have an article about that.
Kelly (on the right) then adds, that:
“It was fine. It was a nice beach resort area. The time we went, it was not the right time of year. There was nobody there. But it was nice. We had it to ourselves. We rented scooters and drove around the island area.
It’s great all around the park, which is really nice, really pretty. But, you know,, you know, people mostly fly into Taoyuan Airport, which is a little closer to Taipei. So to justify going all the way to, you know, the southern part of Taiwan, I think they need to do a little bit more than, you know, what they have right now, be a little bit more like a tourist-friendly and more resort like and more, I think it continuous, like a kind of a tropical destination kind of a feeling place. Right. So we will probably say make it a little bit more. Western tourist friendly.”
Article recommended visiting Eluanbi Park and its Lighthouse, referring to it as one of the top eight iconic landmarks in Taiwan. It recommends strolling to the southernmost tip of Taiwan to watch the sunset. It also recommends visiting Wanlitong Beach for several scenes from Life of Pi were shot. The beach is also known for its beautiful sand and crystalline water and is considered a scuba diving and snorkeling paradise.
Editors Note: Wanlitong is the one of the 13 places we recommend for Snorkeling in Kenting.

There are diving spots here and the views of the ocean are very beautiful.
Underwater ecology is very rich. We have a rich coral reef ecosystem, tropical fish, and many intertidal organisms. Some fish partially bury themselves in the sand so you can get a glimpse of their ecosystem.
According to the CNN list, no trip to Kenting is complete without a stop at Longpan Park with its grassy hills that afford fantastic views of the starry night sky.
Editors Note: Be sure to check out the award-winning toilet in Longpan as well.
Some tourists FTV asked said they have never heard of Kenting but look forward to exploring more hidden gems like Kenting and Taiwan.
