In order to describe the weather in Kenting, and then determine, which is the best month to visit Kenting, we will first visualize mean monthly data from Taiwan Central Weather Bureau.
Let’s analyze various datasets first one by one, and we will start with the most obvious one – Monthly Mean Temperatures in Kenting.
Mean, Mean Maximum and Mean Minimum Temperatures in Kenting per month, °C
|Month||Mean Temp °C||Mean Max Temp °C||Mean Min Temp °C|
Table 1: Monthly Mean, Mean Maximum and Mean Minimum Temperatures, Celsius °C scale
As we can see from the above graph, the hottest month in Kenting will be July, while the coldest month is January.
This reason alone already suggests to avoid coming to Kenting in January & February, at this month, even at the daytime usually the wind is pretty cold, and it is a bit too cold for the water activities.
Extreme Temperature Days in Kenting Statistics
|Month||Number of Days with Max Temp>= 30℃||Number of Days with Mean Temp >= 25℃|
Number of Days with Min Temp <= 10℃
Table Nr.2: Number of Days with Maximum temperature over 30°C, Number of Days with Mean Temperature more than 25°C, and the number of days with Min Temperature less than 10°C.
Good news first – since Kenting climate is classified as the tropical climate, statistics show, that you won’t be freezing in Kenting, even in the coldest months, such as January or February.
Again, as we can see from the above graph, all the temperature extremes at the highest side take place in summer – July, and August, In these months almost every day, the maximum temperature will be close to 30°c or more.
Which month is the rainiest in Kenting?
Another important thing to consider when planning a trip to Kenting is the rain and rainy season in Taiwan.
You may hear about the Plum rain season in Taiwan.
Plum rain is generated by precipitation along a stationary front and in Taiwan typically occurs from May to June.
Also Plum rains usually are short in time, as all strong torrential rain is – they likley will start in afternoon as thunderstorms, severe lightning brought on by convection, and hail, with precipitation reaching 2 to 30 millimeters (mm) within 10 minutes and an excess of 100 mm within an hour. Although these weather events may only last a few hours, tourists in Kenting urged the public to exercise caution because they can cause flooding almost anywhere.
It can be especially dangerous in some mountainous regions – for example in Manzhou. Torrential rains can cause landslides and rocks to fall down on the roads.
Let’s see the statistics per month for precipitation in Kenting:
Table 2: Monthly Precipitation in mm in Kenting
This is graph is also important to consider. Even so that as written before, the Plum Rain season typically occurs from May to June, these 2 months are not the ones where most of the rainfall or maximum precipitation takes place in Kenting.
This is because Plum Rain is usually strong, but same time relatively short in time, as we can see summer months, especially August are the heaviest in precipitation, so the biggest chance to have a rainy day in your Kenting holiday is in August.
Precipitation in mm, per month in Kenting, graph
As we can see from all the above graphs, while January and February are really dry seasons, and for Kenting Tropical Climate even relatively warm, because of the low temperatures, especially at night, and stronger wind, it is not suggested to come in these months.
Some popular resorts consider these as pure offseason months, and even if they charge the full price for the room, you may experience a pool closed for maintenance as in the below 360° photo, and an empty pool bar as well.
