Sichongxi, located in Checheng Township, Pingtung in southern Taiwan, was renamed Wenquan Village in 1950. The area is rich in sedimentary rocks (abundant in limestone) and has been known for its hot springs since 1895.

The spring water, which is an alkaline bicarbonate spring, is smooth to the touch, clear, odorless, and contains various minerals. Surrounded by mountains, the Sichongxi hot springs are nestled among rugged terrain with fertile farmland along the stream.
In January each year, farmers start rice planting in this pollution-free environment with excellent water and soil, naturally yielding high-quality rice.

The Sichongxi basin flows through fertile farmland in the Checheng area. It boasts abundant mineral-rich hot spring water sources and alternates with the natural catchment area of the Mudan Reservoir. The region’s naturally rich and trace element-filled mountain spring water is used for irrigation, hence the name “Sichongxi Hot Spring Rice.
