A parent recently brought their child to stay at a cartoon-themed family room in a Kenting homestay.
However, the parent complained about a moldy smell in the room and discovered a suspected leftover braised food bag and other garbage under the bed.
They questioned whether they would need to inspect under the bed before going out to play in the future.
Upon investigation by the Pingtung County Government, the accused homestay was found to be operating illegally.
The operator of the homestay claimed that the cleaning staff “couldn’t reach under the bed”, which left the affected individuals dumbfounded.

The affected woman told in a phone call to a reporter that:
“That bed board underneath is a space where a child can even crawl in horizontally. How is it possible that it can’t be cleaned in the future? He told me that the windows in that part of the room could not be cleaned. I thought to myself, how could this be true? But he seemed convinced.”

The homestay is built with three floors and has a light blue exterior, giving it a tropical vibe. This homestay in Pingtung’s Kenting area offers cartoon-themed family rooms for photography and family stays.
However, upon entering the room, an unexpected scene greeted us. There were pink-colored signs resembling substitutes for well-known sites in Kenting, along with other unknown items.
Underneath the bed, the room was filled with a solid moldy smell and a strong unpleasant odor.
At that time, the parent said that the themed room in the inn was priced at NTD 2,980, the same price as other hotels in Kenting.
They also believed that the room was not properly cleaned, especially the bed and bed bottom. They exclaimed,
“Do we have to check under the bed before going out to play from now on?”
However, it was only mentioned that there were bags under the bed and no food inside, just some trash and toilet paper, which left the parent dumbfounded.
The disappointed customer then added, that: “Because he may have explained to me when I mentioned the strange smell, he thought it was me talking about food, so that’s why the odor was present. But I feel that regardless of what it is, it shouldn’t be there in the first place, right?”
The parent mentioned that besides the strange smell in the room and the stains under the bed, there were suspected fleas on the mattress, and the whole family was itching and couldn’t sleep. When they left a review on Google, the landlady even asked her to explain about it.

In response to the allegations made by the parents, the operator of the accommodation refused to respond.
However, after an investigation by the Pingtung County Administration, it was confirmed that the homestay was indeed an illegal establishment. Officials will send personnel to inspect the site and take appropriate action.
The administration also emphasized that people should choose legal and certified accommodations when visiting Pingtung. They can check the website of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications Tourism Bureau or the Pingtung Tourism website for qualified accommodations.
Qualified homestays will display a specific logo at the entrance. It is recommended that people compare different options before making a reservation to ensure a pleasant and enjoyable stay.
I can also add that even 5000NTD per night will not save you from unpleasant surprises like this.
