With the easing of the COVID-19 pandemic and the approach of summer vacation, the tourism and accommodation industry in Pingtung is facing a shortage of frontline manpower just as the economy is recovering.
In response, the Ministry of Labor has launched the “Post-Pandemic Program to Improve Labor Shortages and Expand Employment” to encourage unemployed individuals to join the hospitality industry by providing subsidies. Today, a recruitment event is being held in Hengchun.
To help the tourism and accommodation industry address the post-pandemic labor shortage at the grassroots level, the Ministry of Labor has introduced the “Post-Pandemic Program to Improve Labor Shortages and Expand Employment,” which involves project matching for industries facing labor shortages.
The program provides subsidies ranging from NT$6,000 to NT$13,000 per month to encourage unemployed individuals to enter the hospitality industry.
The Chaozhou Employment Center of the Ministry of Labor is organizing the recruitment event today at the public market banquet hall in Hengchun.
More than half of the participating companies are from the hotel and accommodation industry, including Kenting Howard Beach Resort, Kenting Caesar Park, Fullon resort, and Chateau Beach Resort hotels.
Employers participating in the on-site recruitment have expressed that the instability of employment in the hospitality industry during the pandemic has led to a significant loss of personnel.
With the recovery of the tourism industry and implementing of the government’s post-pandemic program to improve labor shortages and expand employment, they hope to alleviate the labor shortage situation.
In addition, surrounding service and retail industries are also present at the event, offering vacancies ranging from room attendants and cleaners without specific educational backgrounds to professional chefs, lifeguards, and hotel managers.
Some positions are offering starting salaries of over NT$40,000, attracting a considerable number of job seekers.
Yang Cailan 楊采蘭, the director of the Chaozhou Employment Center, pointed out that the eligibility criteria and subsidy methods for the program will be explained at the “Post-Pandemic Program to Improve Labor Shortages and Expand Employment” promotion seminar held at Kenting Fullon Hotel on the 20th.
