On the third day of the Lunar New Year at Fangliao's Five-way Intersection, there is heavy traffic in both north and south directions

Today, on the third day of the Lunar New Year, February 13th, the weather in Pingtung County is sunny and suitable for outings. The intersection of Route 1 and Route 17 in Fangliao, a critical passage to Pingtung and Taitung, has seen heavy traffic in both directions. The Fangliao Police Sub-bureau noted that today, the Five-way Intersection cannot implement traffic lane adjustments due to the volume of traffic in both directions. Traffic control will primarily rely on police-managed extended green lights to ease the flow, continuing to monitor traffic conditions.

The Fangliao Sub-bureau indicated that, according to the Traffic Control Center’s data, a surge in southbound traffic began from 7 to 8 AM, reaching a peak between 9 and 10 AM with over 3400 vehicles; northbound traffic also exceeded 2900 vehicles between 1 and 2 PM.

Starting at 8 AM, traffic police were dispatched to manage the flow on Route 1 with extended green lights due to heavy traffic in both directions, making it impossible to implement lane adjustments. The situation continues to be monitored, and lane adjustments or diversion measures will be implemented as necessary to maintain smooth traffic flow.

The Traffic Team also noted that after 11 AM today, the traffic flow increased at the intersection of Route 26 and Route 9, the meeting point of Hengchun and Taitung, especially northbound traffic, which reached 2774 vehicles per hour from 12 to 1 PM. Continuing southbound towards Hengchun after 11 AM saw over 2500 vehicles per hour, with gate control measures implemented at that intersection.

The Traffic Team reminds everyone that the peak of northbound traffic on Route 1 during the Lunar New Year holiday is expected on the fourth day of the Lunar New Year, February 14th. For the first time, the longest dual-point northbound traffic adjustments will be implemented based on traffic volume, from Fenggang to Fangshan Bridge (Route 1, 460 to 453.1 km), and also from Shuidiliao to Jialu section (Route 1, 436.5 to 445.5 km), implementing a 16 km northbound traffic adjustment with extended green signal times up to 360 seconds, with the police fully prepared.
