According to statistics from the Ministry of Transportation, the most popular tourist attraction in Pingtung is the religious site Fuan Temple, with Kenting having dropped out of the top three. Veteran five-star hotel operators in Kenting confirm that there was a decline in bookings of about 20% last summer. As a result, room rates were adjusted, with prices dropping by 1,000 to 2,000 TWD during weekends and holidays, including freezes or even reductions in prices. In response to these prices, some people say they will give it a try as long as the weather is not cold, but others comment that even with the price reduction, it is still expensive and not worth considering.

In previous years, the clear blue skies and seas of the Kenting area attracted a large number of tourists. On the eve of the cold wave, there was even a surge in travel to escape the cold. Pingtung’s popular tourist spots have undergone a major reshuffle, with a sharp decrease in the number of visitors to Kenting. According to statistics from the Ministry of Transportation, from January to November last year, the most visited attraction in Pingtung was the Fuan Temple in Checheng, attracting over 4.5 million visitors. The second place was the Shilin Forest Park behind Shilin, and the Dapeng Bay Play Area ranked third.
