The entire area is located within Mudan Township, Pingtung County, bordered by the Pacific Ocean to the east, the Dongyuan Basin to the west, Tawu Creek to the north (forming the boundary with Taitung County), and Mudanbi Mountain and the Xuhai Grassland to the south. The designated area includes coastal land and adjacent coastal waters.

On January 20, 2012, the Pingtung County Government, in accordance with the Cultural Heritage Preservation Act and its implementation rules, announced the Xuhai – Guanyinbi coastal area in Mudan Township as a county-level nature reserve.

Get on the captivating journey along the Alangyi Ancient Trail, also known as the Lanyu Beinan Trail in the Xuhai area of Pingtung. This historic path, which traces the rugged Pacific coastline, served as a vital route for various ethnic groups in their early days of migration, trade, and mountain travel.
As you embark on this adventure, you will traverse one of Taiwan’s few remaining untouched coastal lines, now part of the esteemed Xuhai Guanyinbi Nature Reserve. Here, the pristine ecological environment and rich biodiversity are meticulously preserved. Prepare for a moderately challenging trek, as the trail features several steep inclines, aided by ropes and boardwalks, suitable for those with a reasonable level of fitness.
The 8-kilometer trail, beautifully nestled between lush mountains and the azure sea, offers an opportunity to witness extraordinary flora such as Chamaecyparis and Hengchun Fukien Cypress. Please keep your eyes peeled for rare wildlife like the green turtles and coconut crabs, which are part of our conservation efforts.
