According to the statistics from the Tourism Bureau of the Ministry of Transportation as of January 9, the average booking rate for accommodations for the first 6 days is about 40.65%, which is only a slight increase of 3.79% compared to the Spring Festival holiday last year when the pandemic had just been lifted.
Among them, only Yunlin County exceeded 70%, while Miaoli County, Nantou County, Yunlin County, Chiayi County, and Chiayi City exceeded 50%. The traditionally popular Hualien-Taitung area is only about 40%.

According to the Tourism Bureau’s statistics, Yunlin County has emerged as an exceptional case this year, with an accommodation booking rate of over 70% for the first 6 days at 71.03%, and the only dates with over 90% booking rate being Yunlin County’s February 10th and 11th; the only dates with over 70% are Miaoli County and Chiayi County on February 11th.

For the first 6 days on the main island, the lowest booking rate was in Changhua County at only 28.24%, with Keelung City, Hsinchu County, Hsinchu City, and Pingtung County averaging less than 40% (and so is the Kenting – at least now seems people is not keen to be going to Kenting for a Chinese new year holidays).
Looking at single-day rates, Changhua County’s booking rate on February 13th was only 15.27%. As for the traditionally popular Hualien-Taitung area, this year’s average booking rate for the first 6 days is about 40%, a significant decrease from last year’s 60%.

The president of the Hualien County Hotel Association, Chang Xuan-Han, stated that the current booking rate for the Hualien-Taitung area from the second to the fourth day of the Spring Festival is about 60% to 70%, with an average of about 50% for the entire holiday period. This year, due to the start of school immediately after the New Year, and the general tendency of the public to book accommodations later, possibly due to having other plans or still waiting and seeing, the average booking rate has declined by about 10% to 20% compared to last year.
She said that this year’s booking situation is about what was expected by the industry, as evidenced by the booking rates during the New Year’s holiday and the weekdays of January. The number of Taiwanese choosing domestic travel has decreased, and it is estimated that the trend of going abroad will continue for a while, and the industry is prepared.
As for room prices, this year's Spring Festival holiday prices have increased by about 2% to 3% compared to regular days, but compared to the past when rooms were hard to come by, this year many operators have launched special promotions to attract customers, such as providing dining and other peripheral service value-added.
The Tourism Bureau analyzed that the Spring Festival holiday lasts for 7 days, with the middle 5 days being more significant in terms of booking. Due to the return home for family reunions, the booking rate is only slightly over 40% on the first day of the holiday, and it is relatively low on the day before the holiday ends as people gradually return to their places of work.
Additionally, as the public has become accustomed to arranging travel and booking accommodations close to the holiday period, this statistic is still a month away from the Spring Festival, and it is expected that the booking rate for accommodations will be higher as the holiday approaches.
