According to police investigations, last night around 10 PM, a 31-year-old man surnamed Wu was driving his sedan out of the Chateau Beach Resort’s gate, turning right onto Kenting Road, when he was side-swiped by a sedan driven by a 26-year-old man surnamed Zhou.
Wu’s car overturned due to the high-speed collision, and Zhou’s car also ended up with its wheels in the air. Wu and four passengers in his car, including a 9-year-old girl and a 2-year-old boy, suffered minor scrapes and were taken to Nanmen Hospital. Zhou and two passengers in his car were also slightly injured and were treated at Hengchun Tourist Hospital. All eight individuals were in stable condition with clear consciousness.
Hengchun police stated that both drivers underwent breath alcohol tests at the hospital and neither had consumed alcohol. After reviewing the dashcam footage, the initial determination was that the accident was caused by Mr. Wu failing to yield to oncoming traffic and Mr. Zhou not paying attention to the situation ahead. They urge the public to be more vigilant and reduce speed while driving at night due to poor visibility, in order to prevent accidents.
Local residents mentioned that there have been past incidents on this road section, including fatal accidents where guests driving out of the resort were hit by cars traveling at high speed. The police have set up signs indicating speed enforcement ahead on the southbound curve, but visibility becomes poor at night and visitors from out of town often exceed the 60 kilometers per hour speed limit.
