Sheliao Village 射寮村

Sheliao Village 射寮村

Shelioao village is located to the southwest of our township. During the Japanese colonial period, rice and ramie constituted one-third of the village’s industries. After the restoration, agriculture remained the primary occupation, with some villagers cultivating onions. Others made a living through fishing or manual labor. The spiritual center of the villagers is the Daidun Palace, established in the 25th year of Emperor Qianlong’s reign during the Qing Dynasty, which worships the deity Wufu Qiansui.

‘Guishan’ (Turtle Mountain – 龜山) is situated to the west, a small hill with an altitude of only 72 meters. Its name derives from its resemblance to a sea turtle climbing onto the shore and then trying to turn back into the sea.

From the top of the hill, there’s a broad view, allowing one to appreciate the beautiful rural scenery of our township and the splendid blue vistas of the sea.

Additionally, there is the ‘Qinghe Hall’ ancient house, which has a history of over two hundred years. Its external walls are constructed with cobblestones, exuding a deep sense of antiquity. The Kapok tree tree has existed for 280 years, even before the village was officially established. It used to be vibrant and was surrounded by a bustling atmosphere of worship. From December of the lunar calendar to February of the following year, its red flowers would bloom, looking exceptionally bright and beautiful.

There was once an offer of 1.47 million yuan to purchase this tree. However, it is said that the ancient tree appeared in a dream, expressing its reluctance to leave, and hence the sale was canceled. (Regrettably, the old Ceiba (Kapok) tree has now withered, and only its trunk remains in its original place.)
