Typhoon Haikui did quite a big influence to southern parts of Taiwan, especially in Pingtung, including the suspension bridge at Gangkou. In this area, the trees can feel the quite intense swaying. After the fierce typhoon landed in the eastern part of the land, Kenting in Pingtung gradually began to experience the strengthening of the wind and rain. Waves along the coast are relentless, and curious tourists who were once at the beach have disappeared, as we reported earlier.
While some shops are still open on Kenting’s main street, it remains quiet, with only the occasional passing vehicle and few shoppers. However, there are still tourists who have booked accommodations and want to take advantage of the reduced crowds during the typhoon to explore. Kenting is quite a low-lying area, and the region is preparing for the heavy rain that the typhoon may bring. Mobile pumps are being deployed to pumping stations. The military is also stationed here to assist in disaster relief. The Mudan Reservoir is also releasing water preventatively due to rising water levels, and people are urged to stay away from riverbanks.
These mobile pumps will help to pump out the water of streets that will be overflooded later.
