Longshui Village 龍水里

Longshui Village, formerly known as Longxuan Water (龍宣水), Longquan Water (龍泉水), was part of Dehe Village during the reign of Emperor Guangxu, and “Longquan Water Township” during the Japanese colonial period.

According to the “Hengchun County Chronicles,” this place was originally desolate, with dense forests that blocked out the sunlight, making it dark even during the day.

As a result, there were legends of ghosts and spirits, and the locals were afraid to enter. During a drought, with no water available, the villagers discovered that a dog could emerge from the woods wet, arousing their curiosity.

They cleared a path by cutting down trees and followed its tracks, eventually finding a sweet, clear, and refreshing spring. This relieved the villagers’ suffering from the drought, so they named this spring “Lingshan Spring – 靈山泉”

This is the origin of the name Longxuan Water – 龍宣水. The spring existed during the Japanese colonial period but has since dried up and disappeared.

The village covers an area of 7.0340 square kilometers with a population of 1,269people.

Dehe Village borders it to the north, Daguang Village to the south, Shanhai Village to the west, and Nanwan Village to the east.

This village, including Longluan Pond, has a flat terrain and abundant water sources, making it a relatively prosperous area during the agricultural era. The residents have surnames Zhang 張 and You, most of whom migrated from Tougou and earlier from Quanzhou, China.
